FROM THE PASTOR

I believe it was the British author Charles Dickens who said, “there is nothing certain in life except death and taxes.” The Covid 19 pandemic truly has changed America forever. Many restaurants and small businesses have gone under financially. Many people still wear masks everywhere they go and always will. We will probably never truly get rid of the virus as it has the capacity to keep changing. We will probably continue to need booster shots. Some churches still do not sing or allow food in the building. The thing about change is we have to get used to it and learn to adapt to it. I remember the story of the woman who had long, long hair halfway down her back and one day went to the beauty salon and had it cut very short. That night at the dinner table her husband was very quiet. The daughter said, “Dad, what do you think of Mom’s new hair style?” The husband replied, “if your Mom had worn her hair like that when I met her, you and your brother would not be here right now.” Yes change is hard. And the older you get the more you dislike change. But there is good news. Hebrews 13: 8 says “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.” God’s love, grace and strength is available 24/7 no matter what happens. Earthly leaders change, societal norms change, but God will always be in control. Remember the hymn “In the Garden” “and he walks with me and he talks with me, and he tells me I am his own. And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.”

Blessings, Pastor George

What We Believe

  • We believe in God, the Eternal Spirit, who is made known to us in Jesus our brother, and to whose deeds we testify:
  • God calls the worlds into being, creates humankind in the divine image, and sets before us the ways of life and death.
  • God seeks in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin.
  • God judges all humanity and all nations by that will of righteousness declared through prophets and apostles.
  • In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Lord, God has come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the whole creation to its Creator.
  • God bestows upon us the Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues, and races.
  • God calls us into the church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be servants in the service of the whole human family, to proclaim the gospel to all the world and resist the powers of evil, to share in Christ's baptism and eat at his table,to join him in his passion and victory.
  • God promises to all who trust in the gospel forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace, courage in the struggle for justice and peace, the presence of the Holy Spirit in trial and rejoicing, and eternal life in that kingdom which has no end.
  • Blessing and honor, glory and power be unto God.
  • Amen.
